What are the rewards of Zakat?
Zakat is the third pillar of Islam, and it is a blessing and a growth to the owner, In the al hadith AlSaheeh about the son of Omar (RA), the prophet (PBUH) said: “Islam is built on five: testifying that there is no god but God, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God, fulfilling prayer, and giving zakat.”
Allah (AWJ) commanded the muslims to give some of the money that blessed us with to the poor families as a Zakat, and as a reward Allah promised to cleanse and forgive, and an increase and a raise to our wealth.
Allah says in the Qura’an:”Take Sadaqah (alms) from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with it…” (9:103).
The definition of Zakat in the Arabic language: growth and rise in wealth.
Conditions and obligations:
It is obligatory for every Muslim, whether male or female, old or young, sane or insane.
If the conditions and the quorum for zakat are met, then zakat is obligatory for Muslims, which is specified in the Sharia, and the condition for zakat on money is that the money be transferred for a year – that is, a Hijri year -. And that is because the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “There is no zakat on money until a year has passed on it.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood and Ibn Majah, and al-Hafiz said there is nothing wrong with its chain of transmission).
One of its conditions is also that the donor of his zakat does not need this money as one of his basic needs.
Zakat is obligatory on four types of money as defined by Sharia, which are: money – merchants’ offerings – coming out of the land (grains, fruits and minerals) – and fattening livestock.
What is Nisab?
niṣāb (نِصاب) is the minimum amount that a Muslim must have before being obliged to give Zakat.
Nisab of Zakat of Money
The nisab for zakat on cash and coins is 85 grams of pure gold.
Nisab of gold
The jurists differed about its zakat, some of them are of the opinion that it is not subject to zakat, regardless of its weight or amount, is subject to zakat when the quorum has reached and the year has passed. He owes zakat, whether the man or the woman has zakat. Zakat is not obligatory on gold unless it reaches the nisaab and the Hijri year has passed on it. The nisab for gold and gold coins is (20) twenty Mithqal, which is equivalent to (85) grams of pure gold (and a Mithqal is equivalent to 4.25 grams).
As for gold that is not pure, it drops from its weight the amount of what it mixes with other than gold. 21) A carat, for example, deducts the value of the price and represents three out of twenty-four, and the remainder is paid zakat. The same applies to non-pure silver.
According to the most correct opinion of the scholars, there is no obligatory zakat on a woman’s gold intended for adornment.
